As the “Summer of Soccer” comes to a close, the fall family soccer season is just about to begin. And what better way to enjoy the (hopefully!) changing weather than spending a day at Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Complex?
Al Ruschhaupt is one of McKinney’s hidden gems, offering more than just a large field where local teams can practice or play. With beautiful nature walking trails, a playground, and a splash pad, it’s a great place to spend some time together, whether there’s a soccer game on the schedule or not.
🌳 Take a Walk Through the Trees

On the far western side of the park, known as Phase I, families will find the entrance to the Wilson Creek Trail at Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Complex. The wide, paved path totals about 1.6 miles and is great for walking, running or biking.
The trail winds through areas that showcase McKinney’s natural beauty, but one of the best parts is that it is mostly shaded, making it a comfortable option for getting outside throughout much of the year.
If your family is feeling extra active, the trail also connects to the larger Wilson Creek Trail, which totals 5.3 miles.
💦 Cool Off After the Game
Also located in Phase I are a soccer-themed splash pad and a treehouse-themed playground. Both amenities are nestled along the trail and are shaded for much of the day, making them a fun place to cool off during the dog days of summer.

The splash pad is on the smaller side, making it especially well-suited for younger kids, and offers several seating options arranged in a way that resembles a soccer stadium.

The playground is mostly enclosed and paved, with a large retaining wall surrounding it. Kids can climb, slide, hang and run, while parents have several spots to keep an eye on the action, including picnic tables and benches.
Across the retaining wall, families will find restrooms on one side and swings on the other.
The Phase I area also overlooks several practice fields, making it a convenient spot for younger siblings to play while older kids practice with their local soccer team.
⚽ Where the Soccer Action Happens
Phase II, located on the eastern side of the complex, is home to large competitive soccer fields, a disc golf course and a large amphitheater.

The amphitheater overlooks the fields and serves as a concession facility during soccer season. Whether games are in season or not, the structure also provides a shaded place to sit and includes restroom facilities.
A large pavilion is also located in Phase II, just off the midpoint of the shorter arm of the Wilson Creek Trail. The pavilion is available on a first-come, first-served basis and includes BBQ grills and several picnic tables.
Al Ruschhaupt Soccer Complex is a great place to enjoy nature, get active, and spend time together as a family. Whether your weekend includes a soccer game or you're simply looking for somewhere to explore, there’s more to this complex than meets the eye.
